Sky Sports has joined as a new partner of ‘The BIGGER 180’ campaign at the World Darts Championship for Prostate Cancer UK.
Paddy Power will again donate £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK for every 180 at this year’s tournament, plus a massive £180,000 bonus for every nine-darter – shared between the charity, the player, and a lucky fan in the Ally Pally crowd.
This year’s donation is expected to exceed the £1m raised in 2023/24, and funds will support Prostate Cancer UK’s TRANSFORM trial, a groundbreaking research project that will find the best way to diagnose prostate cancer early and pave the way for a national screening programme.
In the UK, one man dies from prostate cancer every 45 minutes. But finding it early, when it’s easier to treat, can save lives.
This Christmas, fans will be encouraged to take just 30 seconds to check their risk of prostate cancer using the easy online tool below:
While raising awareness across the UK, the campaign will focus on reaching men in regions like Scotland, Wales, the North West, the South West and the Midlands, where there are higher numbers of men who are diagnosed too late to be cured.
The player who throws the most 180s across the tournament will also be awarded the Ballon d’Art, which went to champion Luke Humphries in 2023/24.
He hit a staggering 73 maximums on his way to glory.
A Sky Sports spokesperson said: “It’s a privilege to be part of The BIGGER 180 campaign, especially after seeing the outstanding work and money raised last year. We look forward to using Sky’s platforms to widen the reach and provide meaningful change in order to help save lives.”
Matt Porter, Professional Darts Corporation chief executive, said: “The BIG 180 was darts’ biggest-ever charity partnership and it’s exciting to see this grow even further for the 2024/25 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
“The BIGGER 180 will directly benefit the TRANSFORM trial, and given the amazing standard produced by players during 2024, we could not only see a record number of 180s hit during the event but also multiple nine-darters!”
